Why should they mock poor fellows thus?

I’m thinking of doing away with myself, Mortimer. I can no longer abide the impudent lack of courtesy, which seems to be the hallmark of all but the Elect. Just yesterday, as I hastened to the Firm, a most belligerent individual failed to give way at a roundabout, nearly causing a collision. As if this violation of decency were not enough, the blackguard proceeded to make an obscene gesture out of his sedan window. Aghast at the ludicrous nature of this act and in rather uncharacteristic fashion, I screamed out of my own window that he might make the same gesture to himself in the looking glass when he got home, as the situation was entirely of his making. I, also, quite graciously, suggested that he might go to the devil at his earliest convenience. Later in the day, I took a moment to go round and see a nearby purveyor of books to enquire about a novel, recently released. After having scanned the latest titles for some time, I approached a clerk for assistance. The young lady was most impertinent and insisted on arguing that the title had yet to be made public. It wasn’t until the matter was escalated to owner of the store that I was vindicated in my assertion that the book was, indeed, available. I was then informed that he was, at present, sold out of this particular tome but would have additional copies in a fortnight. So exasperated was I by my experience with the clerk that I was immediately plunged into the depths of despair. It is my considered opinion that insolence is, quite often, in direct proportion to ignorance. These are not isolated incidents, my friend, but an alarming and increasing trend that I cannot abide. Thusly, I have judged the world unworthy of my presence. This evening, I will place sodium hydroxide pellets into the various orifices of my person. I expect the result to be appropriately disturbing. Farewell, my friend. I leave these troglodytes and their barbaric behavior to your more than adequate care.
